What we did : Art Installation & Self - Guided Experience
Inspired by my late grandfather,
and his seasons of weaving as a way of life.
Time was never measured, only felt
in how things form, age, remain, and renew.
Venue : The Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur
Date : 6 - 31 May '26
Do you still remember the way to weave as the season arrived?
OH!Tanglung is an intimate installation by Sumay Cheah, presented as a prelude to OH!Tenang: Tanglung Stories, unfolding in Penang later this year.
Paying homage to everyday craft, shaped by the hands of ordinary people, the installation draws inspiration from the Wau*. Skeletal Tanglung structures are suspended in space, each line gently held together as one would bind a Wau*, formed through thread and Chinese knotting.
Knot with us & take home a flower
A self-guided experience of knotting your own bookmark, here.
You are invited at The Chow Kit to learn how to knot a bookmark to take home, a gesture
of exchange and blessing.
Part of OH!Kindness Ripples, an initiative of rippling kindness & quiet blessings.
*Wau is a traditional Malaysian kite, particularly famous in Kelantan, featuring large, intricately designed structures made from bamboo and paper.
